PIÈCES UNIQUES Unveils the Fall-Winter 2025 Collection: «COUP D’ÉTAT»
«COUP D’ÉTAT», a bold narrative envisioned by Creative Director Edmond LUU. The collection draws deeply from a personal conversation between LUU and his Vietnamese grandfather, reflecting on the Vietnam War and the resilience of civilians striving to protect their homeland. This poignant family history becomes the foundation for a story of rebellion and the fight for a brighter future.
«COUP D’ÉTAT» delivers a powerful statement, addressing contemporary challenges through the lens of past struggles. The collection incorporates motifs of uprising and freedom, prominently featuring the phrase MONDE LIBRE (Free World). Displayed in both distressed prints and intricate hand-embroidered details, this message operates on dual levels: as an aspiration for universal freedom and a critique of those who claim to embody it.
Stars—referencing Edmond’s Vietnamese heritage—appear throughout the collection, in prints, embroidery, and as striking embellishments on the backs of fur coats. Additionally, subversive elements, such as reimagined logos of global institutions, weave in subtle commentary.
The collection showcases an innovative blend of textures and materials, offering a tactile journey that mirrors its bold thematic underpinnings. Fur, both luxurious and rugged, brings a sense of drama, while leather—crafted in contrasting grainy and buttery-soft finishes—adds depth and edge. Merino wool is molded into shapes resembling barbed wire, reinterpreting a harsh, symbolic element of confinement into something unexpectedly soft and protective. Denim is juxtaposed with painted finishes, creating textures that evoke mud-streaked clothing, reminiscent of enduring hard-fought battles. The combination of these materials creates a tactile interplay between rawness and refinement, telling a story through every surface. Subtle transitions from coarse, heavy textiles to light, airy finishes underline the dualities of resistance and hope.
Striking a balance between dark and light, hard and soft, «COUP D’ÉTAT» captures the contrasts of a world in flux. It is a call to reflect, rebel, and strive for an illuminated future.
